DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Charlotte Brandhorst (University Bremen / Research I
nstitute Social Cohesion)\, Anne Speer (University Bremen / Research Insti
tute Social Cohesion)\n\nThe Data Champion Award is an accolade presented
annually by DataNord. The award recognizes outstanding achievements in the
field of research data and a special commitment to the FAIR handling of r
esearch data. This award is intended not only to acknowledge individual ac
complishments in the fields of data-intensive science\, data science\, and
research data management (RDM)\, but also to serve as an incentive to con
tinue working at the highest level and to drive innovation forward.\nFollo
wing the award ceremony on Research Data Day 2026\, the Data Champions 202
6 will showcase their work in this exclusive Data Story.\nThe Story\nThe R
ISC Milieus: A Data Story from Social Survey Data to an Open-Source Typolo
gy with Interactive Applications\nAs concerns about social cohesion increa
se\, there is new interest in studying societal conflicts between social m
ilieus: groups in society with shared values and social positions. How can
we grasp such milieus with empirical data\, and what can they reveal abou
t contemporary social conflicts? Join us on our data journey where we intr
oduce participants to the RISC milieu typology and its accompanying data p
roject which was awarded the Data Champion Award 2026. The workshop is div
ided into two parts:\nPart 1: The Research Project and our Data Journey.\n
We'll begin with an introduction to social milieus and the RISC milieu typ
ology in particular\, and discuss why these tools are useful for analyzing
social conflicts. We then introduce you to the technical workflow behind
the construction and validation of the RISC milieu typology on a conceptua
l level (no prior methodological knowledge is required).\nPart 2: Interact
ive Exploration.\nThe second part gets practical as we explore the typolog
y interactively. Participants can identify their own milieu membership usi
ng our milieu calculator and explore relationships between different milie
us through our interactive visualization tool.\nThe workshop concludes wit
h a reflection of open science principles and an open discussion.\nPart 3:
Get-together.\nFollowing the workshop\, continue the discussion and get t
o know other data enthusiasts in a casual get-together with free🧃drinks
and🍕 snacks.\nMore information\n\nLearn more about the Data Champions
